At El Asilo del Libro we seek to give new life to works that deserve to be preserved and shared. If you have old, curious, or out-of-print books that you no longer use, we can appraise them and, if they fit our catalog, purchase them so they become part of our bookshop’s collection.
We acquire individual copies as well as complete lots and libraries, provided their subject matter and state of preservation meet our criteria. We are especially interested in:
Books printed before 1950.
Out-of-print and first editions.
Works on history, science, art, medicine, navigation, or cartography.
Books of local interest related to Valencia and its history.
Copies signed or dedicated by the author.
Antique graphic materials: engravings, maps, posters, and postcards.
Appraisals are carried out on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the rarity of the work, its market demand, and its condition. In the case of entire libraries or large collections, we can travel to examine them.
If you would like to offer your books for sale, you can contact us by phone or email, providing the following information:
Title, author, and year of publication.
Publisher and edition number.
General condition of the copy.
Photographs of the cover and inner pages.
To focus our activity on materials of genuine interest and historical value, we do not acquire:
Current school or university textbooks.
Large-run encyclopedias and collections from the 1970s to 1990s.
Contemporary paperbacks or recent bestsellers without collectible value.
Books in poor condition (moisture, mold, loose pages, or irreparable bindings).
Obsolete technical manuals and internal corporate publications.
Modern magazines without historical or collector relevance.
At El Asilo del Libro we believe that every book has a journey that shouldn’t end on a forgotten shelf. Buying old, curious, and out-of-print books is our way of preserving that journey and placing it in the hands of new readers and collectors. If you believe your books deserve a new destination, we’ll be happy to hear from you and assess their story with you.
